I'm just trying to change the language to English on this blog. Not sure if it's going to work..
But for non/Swedish speakers, in case it won't work, just click 'kommentarer' to leave a comment. I mean if you didn't figure that our already...

Times are a-changing!

Well Aloha!
So after a series of unfortunate events, we seem to be back on track, knock on wood!
The most exciting news would be that we are going to move! I think it will be half a block or so down the street, but we will have our own place! Not a room in someone else's home! We won't move in until the 15th, but it is still very exciting for us! The new place has one bedroom and a nice living room with a rather spacious balcony with an ocean view! There is a sofabed also for VISITORS!! (That means YOU!) But that's not enough! It has a POOL also!
Now those were the biggest news, but you as you might imagine, we are very excited!! Our situation now is not bad at all, but we have very little privacy and no kitchen of our own. Do you now realise the full extent of our excitement?
What's more... well, my dentist did a great job restoring my tooth and now I only have one more time until it's done! Our camera will be returned soon, which will benefit this blog of course!
Did I mention that we're moving?
Well, time's up so hasta manana!

A Series of Unfortunate Events

Ouch what a week! As you may have noticed, there has not been any new pictures posted. And that's not because we (that is Jessica, then) have been lazy. Our waterproof camera turned out not to be. So it was sent back to Colorado and we are still waiting to get a replacement. So until then, you will have to bear with me.
But that was minor... Perhaps two weeks ago we finally got some some sizeable waves and went surfing at our favorite spot. I rode the biggest wave of my life and let's just say that we both got severe surf-stoke afterwards. However, of all this moving water, a rather large amount ended up inside my head, or in my ears to be more specific. It got to the point where I couldn't sleep or work. Agony! Off to the doctor's! Thank God I have insurance! Oh and, yeah, couple of days later I had a root-canal! My middle name is now PAIN! But honestly, it didn't hurt half as much as people said it would. Well, I thought I'd just have this year's (and maybe next year's too) worth of pain all at once...
Anywho, then the car started leaking and overheating and all of a sudden one window wouldn't come up. So off to Bob's we go! The car needs a new radiator, eventually... But at least it was temporarily fixed. But why did the little battery lamp keep coming on? I was told not to worry about it, it's an old car and all that. But it is an eyesore on the dashboard. The pain was fading away and things started looking brighter again. Until one early morning as I was going to work. As I drove down the street the car felt weird and suddenly all the warning lights came on. I was going over the options in my mind, turn around and take my bike to work and be late or keep driving and deal with it later. But then the power-steering died and I quickly decided to opt for the former. With all my might and strength and will power I managed to turn the car around and drive another few yards, just far enough to get it back onto our street. Then it died... So what else to do than to get out and push? Luckily our neighbors are an active bunch, up early to go jogging! A jogger thus stopped and helped me push. She got her husband and I got mine, but between the four of us, we could not get it going. But my friendly neighbor offered me a ride to work, which I really appreciated! Thank heavens for random acts of kindness!
Later on we managed, with a little help from our friends, to get the battery out and have it charged. Wonderful! If only that would have fixed the problem! But Alas! that was not all.. Carless for the weekend, not so much fun, but at least I got some exercise in by riding my bike to and from work. Monday came and so did the north swell. What better way to take some troubles off your mind than some surfing? Our favorite spot turned out to be many other people's favorite as well. It was a circus! Longboarders all over the place leaving very few waves for the rest of us. But as if that was not enough, one of them ran me over! Luckily, I was able to duck, but she hit my board really hard and it is now on the bench. So with the tail between my legs and my ears on fire I paddled back in, defeated. As Sade sings "I've already paid for all my future sins", at least that's how it felt at that moment. And then came Tuesday and things turned around a little. My kind next-door neighbor Martina lent me a shortboard so I wouldn't do more damage to my own mangled board. Having ridden a 7'2 for years, who would have thought I could ride a little 6'5? Nevertheless, I could and it was awesome! We put the charged battery into our car and it started! Took it to Bob's and Bob said he could fix it! An hour or so later he called to say that it was done! Only set us back about $400, but hey, the car runs!
I am not a person to dwell on negative things, but this almost knocked me out! First the ear, then the tooth, then the car and then the board! What could I possibly have done to deserve this? But when I thought about again (and again...) I realised that perhaps this is a time to count my blessings instead of my misfortune? I have medical insurance so I could go to the doctor and get medicine for my ear, I have dental insurance so I could fix my tooth, my car stopped working before I had got very far, so I could turn around and push it back to my house, and I realised that there are still kindhearted people out there (faith in humanity restored, check!), and seeing the damage done to my board I should really thank whoever up there that it was done to my board and not to my body!
And hopefully the camera will be back soon for some photographical updates!
Love to you all from us both!
